(also transcribed as: Nephilium and Nefilim)
|
Nephilim
are beings who appear in the Hebrew Torah, Christian Old Testament, Muslim
Qur'an, and a slurry of pagan ancient historical literature. They are
specifically mentioned, by name, in the Book of Genesis and Numbers. They
are also mentioned specifically, or by other names, throughout other Biblical
texts and in some non-canonical Jewish writings. The Hebrew word for "Nephilim"
comes from the Hebrew word "Nephal" (which means “to fall”),
hence the Nephilim are the “fallen ones”.
According
to Biblical and extrabiblical texts, the “sons
of God” rebelled against God and rejected their
assignment. A full-blown mutiny followed as they abandoned their
God-given mission to oversee and protect mankind and instead choose to
defile the women of the earth by having offspring with them (Genesis 6:4
& 1 Enoch 6:1-8, 7:1-6). The sons of God are the fallen angels who
are known as the Watchers, (or Grigori in Greek), in
the Biblical apocrypha and in the first and second books of Enoch and
Jubilees. The word Grigori derives from the Slavonic Second Book
of Enoch.
Note:
in recent decades, the ancient Sons of God have become known to a modern
pop culture as "aliens". See
article that proves modern "aliens" are the ancient
Fallen Sons of God (aka Angels).
"Sons
of God" were not Sethites
This
catastrophic series of events led to a defect in the DNA of the offspring
and eventually nearly led to the complete contamination of the human DNA
structure. This DNA mutation made these offspring into wicked, and often
exceedingly cruel, giants known as Nephilim, or Nephilium. By the time
Yahweh (God) was forced to destroy the world with a global flood, because
of this contamination, only one family on earth was left with pure human
DNA (Noah's family). |
| |
| “In
those days and afterwards...” |
| |
But
even after the flood, the “sons of God” continued their mutiny
and therefore even more of them were punished and cast out of heaven,
thus losing their first estate and habitation (see Genesis 6:4, Jude 1:6,
2 Peter 2:4, 1 Enoch 6:1-8, Jubilees 4:15-24). |

| |
“The
Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when
the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children
to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown”
– Genesis 6:4 |
|
|
| |
Even after the flood,
this corrupted hybridization of the human DNA structure still continued
onward. But, in time, gigantic size was not always the preeminent characteristic
of the post-flood Nephilim and Nephilim-based tribes as is apparent
from the archeological findings. This is for two reasons. The first
being that the defect of giantism in these beings was corrected in at
least some of the latter offspring. The
second reason is that over time, the Nephilim-based tribes interbred
with humanity and over several generations the dominant traits became
reduced to merely recessive genes. Due to the combination of these reasons,
over the generations the Nephilim genes became completely absorbed into
the human gene pool – thus, in time, causing the classic traits
of the Nephilim to totally disappear altogether.

Up
to as recently as 3000 years ago the descendants of the original Nephilim-based
tribes were still showing up with unusually large brains and therefore
had unusually shaped skulls to accommodate such brains. (As an aside:
it has been found that these beings were often the political, spiritual,
and scientific leaders in their communities and thus influenced the direction
of human societal development in various areas). |

| Other
known names for the Nephilim & Nephilim-based tribes: |
| |
| As the
Nephilim spread across the landscape, interbreeding with various people
groups, these Nephilim-based tribes acquired various names in various parts
of the world. A few of the known names were: |
| |
| Emim
which means “Terrors” |
| |
The Emim was the Moabite name for one of the tribes of Rephaim. They are
described in Deuteronomy chapter 2 as having been a powerful people, populous
and having a successful kingdom. They were defeated by the Moabites, who
occupied their land. The Emim are also mentioned in Genesis 14:5 and according
to Rashi, the name is translated as "the dreaded ones" (Hertz
1936).
"The
Emims dwelt therein in times past, a people great, and many, and tall,
as the Anakim" (Deuteronomy 2:10-11). |
|
|
| Repha'im
which means “Weakeners” |
| |
"Rephaim"
are an ancient "race" of giants in Iron Age Israel, or the places
where these individuals were thought to have lived: see Gen. 14:5, 15:20;
Deut. 2:10-1,20, 3:11,13; Josh. 12:4, 13:12, 15:8, 17:15, 18:16; 2Sam.
5:11,22, 23:13; 1Chr. 11:15, 14:9, 20:4. |
|
|
| Gibborim
which means “Giant Heroes” |
| |
Gibborim
is a Hebrew word that can be translated "mightiest" which is
an intensive for gabar that can be translated "mighty".
In Genesis 6:4, this passage describes the Nephilim as mighty (gibborim).
|
|
| |
| Zamzummim
which means “Acheivers” |
| |
The Zamzummim were a race of giants in Hebrew mentioned in the Hebrew
Bible. They are described as having been a powerful people, populous and
having a successful kingdom. They were defeated in the War of the Kings
along with other Biblical giants such as the Rephaim, the Emim and the
Horim. Sometimes the Zamzummim are referred to as Zumim. "Zamzummim"
(used by the Ammonites) comes from a Hebrew word which literally translates
into "Buzzers", or "the people whose speech sounds like
buzzing." In Arabic the word zamzamah translates as a "distant,
unclear sound". The area of Moab at Ar, (the region East of the Jordan)
before the time of Moses, was also considered the land of the Rephaites.
However, the Ammonites referred to them as the Zamzummites. The Zamzummites
were a numerous and powerful race that was destroyed by God (Deuteronomy
2:18-21). |

Anakim
which means either “long-necked” or “wearers of necklaces” |
| |
Anakim
(or Anakites) are the descendants of Anak, and dwelt in the south of Canaan,
in the neighbourhood of Hebron. In the days of Abraham, they inhabited
the region afterwards known as Edom and Moab, east of the Jordan river.
They are mentioned during the report of the spies about the inhabitants
of the land of Canaan. The book of Joshua states that Joshua finally expelled
them from the land, except for a remnant that found refuge in the cities
of Gaza, Gath, and Ashdod. The Philistine giant Goliath, whom David later
encountered, was supposedly a descendant of the Anakim (see Numbers 13:32–33). |
|
| |
| Horim |
| |
Some scholars identify
the Perizzites with the Horim giants. They lived in the vicinity of
Shechem. A large clan of the Rephaim occupied the territory just north
of them. The children of Joseph apparently took Moses' advice and destroyed
or drove out all these giants, for afterward they occupied that land.
And, indeed, it was not taken until some four centuries later, in the
time of David. When Joshua attacked it, some Horim giants supposedly
lived among the Jebusites.

In
Biblical historical texts, the Amorites are most frequently mentioned
in connection with the Nephilim and the Nephilim-based tribes. Sayce,
among other historians, have uncovered historical references to the Amorite-based
Nephilim as being of light complexion, being blue-eyed, and possessing
dolichocephalic traits (aka: "long-headed"). |
| |
The
skull which Nephilim Skulls International sells is of the late post flood
tribes in the South American region which dates to around 1000 BC and
shows many similarities to the the Amorite-based Nephilim tribes. This
skull possesses the legendary, and bizarre, cranial features which have
made it famous world-wide. Since its origins are of the late scattered
tribes it, as is common among this era of Nephilim descendants, does not
possess all the Nephilim characteristics. This specimen possesses the
cranial characteristics (dolichocephalic / "long-headed" traits)
but not the size characteristics. It is one of the few remains today that
is complete (jaw, teeth, etc intact). It is a beautiful specimen |
